"Trust me Papa...let me look into your eyes". That's what Abby kept telling me over and over as I had an Eye appointment with my "Eye Doctor" granddaughter over the weekend. Besides starting to cry, it was one of the most moving experiences of my journey as a grandparent. You see, Abby is having some side efx of the chemotherapy on her battle with leukemia. Her one eye had some problems (which will clear up) but required her to have some emergency appointments with an opthamogist. Her doctor has taught her some tricks...so when I was with her over the weekend, not only did I wear an eye patch when she did but I also gave her an opportunity to give me an eye exam. She had it down! The close looks...the pretend eye drops...the cloth that helped clean up my eye after the drops were administered...the lights in the eyes for a better look (Abby used her Hippo flashlight that giggles when you use it...what a crack up!). It made me think again...back out now if you want...but it made me think how we learn fromm imitation. Dr. Abby had the Doctor's actions down flat. I should know...I've been through more eye appointments than I can count since I'm half blind! "Imitate God as His beloved children"...that's what Paul writes in Ephesians 5:1. Paul knows what we all know...we learn by imitation! It made me remember the fact that Jesus calls us to walk in His dust...to be so impassioned with a desire to be like Him that we would do anything to imitate His every action! The question is - how badly do you and I really want that? How badly do we want to learn to be like our Rabbi Jesus? Are we playing games are imitating Jesus? Are we doing what He would do or are we making excuses? Maybe you need to spend some time with a little child who learns by imitating. Maybe you need to remember the simplicity of imitation. When you get discouraged, afraid, or confused, maybe you should be looking to your Rabbi and take the chance of imitiating what He would do in the exact situation. "Look into my eyes Papa". Those words shook my world again!
