Elmo!

Hey, it is time for another edition of, "Robin makes a confession". You know that dribble of a blog where a relatively intelligent person makes trite comments about life, faith and the journey of living as a Christ-follower amidst the craziness of 21st century American culture! Well, boys and girls, today's edition has to do with "I am a puppet lover and proud of it". I know that isn't a very dramatic "out of the closet" type of confession...even so, for some people, confessing you like puppets is like proclaiming to the world that you like mimes! Which, by the way, I do...but that is fodder for another post. Everytime I think of puppets, I smile! Isn't that worth it! Isn't it worth looking at Elmo's picture and remembering when Seseme Street was the most sophisticated TV show or media input that you had to endure on a daily basis? Isn't it fun just to look at that red mug and remember the sweet whisperings of his infectous voice? Ok, so I could take this too far...put it this way, we need to smile more. Life is way too serious. I went to a conference lately where I think part of the entrance registration (besides the cash) was that every person had to have a bad attitude and a chip on their shoulder about life and the contemporary climate of "church". There were times I just wanted to yell at the top of my lungs..."lighten up". It is a miracle to even be involved in anything that can be described as the incarnation of Jesus in our modern times. It is a miracle to even have the chance to say that we are participants in what Jesus has sent out into the world with the greatest mysteries of human history...the grace and love of God. Besides that, too many things in life are just plane frustrating, painful and confusing...we alll need to smile more! Doesn't it say somewhere that the "joy of the Lord is our strength"? I think it does...maybe you should look at the picture of Elmo more often. Hey, I don't even see you right now and I know your face is long...your heart is hurried...and your spirit rushed. Lighten up!
