This picture is easy to file under the "Truth is stranger than Fiction" section of your life...yep, you see it! In fact, I'm considering ordering a large print of this picture in order to place it proudly over my couch in the living room of my house. Vicky is out of town now...won't she be surprised when she gets home to see this great work of religious art. In fact, I'm surprised that the picture hasn't ended up at all the local Christian bookstore? I mean, a store that sells all sorts of "Jesus Junk" should also have one of these! Come on! I knew it was time to stop giving out wine and bread at Holy Communion! It's time to finally get to what Jesus Himself used...a Starbucks Grande and a Scone. "Take and drink...er, watch out, it might scald you!". "Would you like your communion with cream and sugar?"
Spirituality getting commodified...churches doing more to be "seeker friendly"...if you can't make enough $$ by people giving of their finances sacrificially, sell coffee out on the patio for $5 a cup! Man, the church is getting more fun day by day in America. I wonder whether our brothers and sisters in the home church movement in China are bummed out that they can't get Starbucks into their meetings. Or how about the church in Africa that is exploding...maybe they have a fresh-brewed secret that we don't know about? Read what one author said about our Starbucks Lord:
"...short-term convenience and growth may come at the expense of church ideals", says Barry Harvey, professor of contemporary theology at Baylor University in Houston. In his view, spirituality has been "commodified" in the past quarter-century, in part due to "church shopping" and a hot market for religious merchandise. From there, he says, "It's just one more step to say, 'What's the big deal about bringing in a McDonald's?' "As churches "come to resemble malls," says Dr. Harvey, "they no longer become communities that try to live differently from the rest of the world and model how life is supposed to be lived . . . We should meet [others] in a marketplace, but then welcome them into a community that says there are deeper ways of relating". Oh come on Dr. Harvey...I've always wanted a big slice of Pepperoni Pizza and a Diet Coke during my pastor's sermon! Lighten up!

COMMENT-BODY:Yes make that a tall, double shot, half-caf, dry, soy, triple malt mint mocha with a pumpkin scone on the side... oh ya and send one up to the big man for me too, he deserves it.
I wonder if we like Starbucks so much because we get so many choices, get some control in our out-of-control lives. I'm gonna start praying like that I think.
"God, ya, could you get me a Grande, triple shot, ultra caffinated miracle" Thanks.... "Oh could I get that Low-carb?... you know my body is your temple:)"
Thanks Rob that is pretty awesome!
