Well...I'm back. After a few days in the mountains of Zion, Vicky and I have made our way home to the land of sun and surf. After shaking the dust off my soul for a few days, this is what I've learned:
1 - Camping is always best in a motorhome! Gone are the days of sleeping bags, tents and cooking outside! Give me an RV, satelite tv, dvds and good conversation and I'm in! Man was not created to sleep on the ground unless he is passed out from too much to drink!
2 - There is nothing like a shower after you get home from a camping trip. After smelling like a fire pit for a couple of days, any other aroma is an improvement.
3 - Community happens when you don't have daily distractions. I wonder how we do it otherwise? We try to squeeze soul to soul connection in with the crazy demands of life. I was just with a guy today who picked up five cell phone calls within our hour long conversation. I almost gave up! I loved just having NOTHING to do but love on the people we were called to be with for the long weekend in Utah. Maybe we shouldn't entertain at home or try to do community at a coffee shop or resteraunt. Maybe we should pack up our friends, our hearts, and spirits and head to some deserted place to do community. I don't know...I am getting tired of trying to squeeze every person I care about into my crazy life!
4 - It is always better to use a toilet than a bush...you know what I mean? What do they say about bears and the woods? I forget that one!
5 - I love God in nature! I saw more of the Father's love in three days in trees, gentle breezes, quiet walks and massive displays of stars than I saw in many of the Christian concerts I've been to, many of the Christian books I've read and many of the sermons I've heard. Now, don't go off the deep end! We need concerts, books and sermons (er, maybe we don't need the last one?)...but remember, there is something in the Word of God that says solitude and the created order of God is one of the most profound of God's revelations of His nature and love. Instead of watching that next reality show, take a walk. Open your eyes! Maybe you'll see the Lord.
That's enough rambling for now...oops, by the way, I'm reading Shadowmancer now. Great novel on spiritual warfare! And I picked up a copy of Campolo's new book! More to come on that! Thanks for sharing the journey!
