Hi there to my blogger friends and companions on the journey of the Kingdom. I have to admit it right here and now...I love the Olympics. I don't know what it is exactly but I could watch the Olympics for hours. First of all, I do it for a bit of a reality check. When I was in High School, I thought I was a big time swimmer. I was the captain of the team, wore my speedo with pride (hey, no comment) and picked up ribbons and medals regularly. Now, I watch the Olympics and put my times up against the female swimmers from Sierra Leone and I get my but whipped. Man, what a loser! But I also like the drama of the sporting world. Except when I see a bunch of whiners on the floor yesterday...the USA Basketball team getting punked by the Puerto Rican team. What was that? You know what it was...an example of overpaid, spoiled, hotdogs on the court getting beat by the team that knew the basics. Yep, I loved to see the humility in the faces of those NBA punks. Until I started thinking...mmmm...there are alot of Christ-followers that I know...people who have sat in pews for years...stuffing their hearts on the best that contemporary Christianity has to offer...great messages, music, the best of books, media...we are a spoiled bunch. Then, I think of what a friend of mine said to me recently after he returned from a trip to visit the "church" in Ethiopia that has experienced 200% growth in the past 6 months. Why? Because they loved Jesus! Yep, maybe we are a bunch of overfed and spoiled and culturally hip Christians but we are basically irrelevant to the work of the Kingdom. We are getting our butts kicked in the faithfulness arena by a bunch of brothers and sisters who don't have a fraction of what we have but know the basics. MMMM. Think of that for a while!
