I'm sitting around this morning...smelling the coffee that is slowly filling up the pot that is brewing for my lovely wife (I hate coffee, but that's for another blog entry). Paint fumes are ruminating throughout the house...yep, after 7 years in the same place, we're painting. Gotta love that! I'm thinking about all the stuff that I have to do...the classes to prepare; the talks for the youth conference this weekend; projects around the house; storage unit to organize; co-workers to supervise and encourage; looking at my "to do" list and finding my heart starting to race and it's only 5:45 in the morning. I've always been a person who was primarily driven by the horizon...the dreams, visions, and hopes of upcoming days where the promise of newness and transformation lie. It has been my passion to be emerging into the life that God wants me to ultimately live...the problem with that, I am missing the moments where God is actually attempting to grab my attention. So many times Jesus had to say, "if only you had eyes to see and ears to hear". I've wondered about those words for hours...I get it that Jesus is fully present and that He is trying to call me into an engagement with Him and His Kingdom. What I have missed, or better yet ignored, is that Jesus is pulling me into the moment. He's challenging me to see the moments of my life that are just as filled with meaning and life as the day when the Word called into being all that there is in the cosmos. Moments are oozing with the presence of God and I'm so stuck on vision and dreams that I skim right by it. I'm going to start today a bit different...I'm going to pray right now for clarity in the NOW. How about you? Are you so driven that you drive or fly right over how God is trying to move or speak or love you in the moments of your life? Maybe we do need a renewed perspective. What do you think?
