Don't tell me I didn't warn you...I usually am not in the habit, of late, of lambasting other Christ-followers. In fact, since we are all knitted and brought together by the mystery of the Body of Christ, I find shooting at brothers and sisters repugnant. YET, in this case, I am taking a small exception. Here's what I want you to do...read the following that I received via a "bulk email"...one designed to be released to the public at large and you tell me, how does this represent the Kingdom of God in our world? Is this the truth? Read it quickly...and I'll comment quickly...because I can't resist:
"You are my 8 in 8 seconds. I am not breaking this. No way! I'M TOLD THIS WORKS!!!!! Bishop T.D. Jakes "8 Second Prayer." Just repeat this prayer and see how God moves!! "Lord, I love you and I need you, come into my heart, and bless me, my family, my home, and my friends, in Jesus' name. Amen." Pass this message to 8 people {EXCEPT YOU AND ME}. You will receive a miracle tomorrow. I Hope that you don't ignore and let God bless you."
OOOOOOO...I'm having one of those attacks! Why didn't anyone over 35 years ago tell me that all I needed to do was say 8 second prayers in order to get me exactly what I want from God? Why didn't some simply tell me that when I am anguishing in a spiritual wilderness, that I was 8 seconds away from emotional bliss? Why didn't anyone tell me a long time ago that when I am praying my a** off for the Lord to bring healing to my granddaughter Abby and the cancer that she is struggling with that all it took was a 8 second prayer "lob" to God? Why has it taken me years to come to the realization that being a Christ-follower takes is more about listening and responding to Holy Spirit moment by moment when all I could have done is take 8 measly seconds to get what I want? Let me just get one thing off my fingers...no wonder we are in the predicament that we are in in the contemporary American church! We are all about our comfort, success, whims and convenience and NOT about sacrifice, self-denial, persistence and what God wants. Please, will someone just stop these types of emails! Yep, it had a great picture attached to it...send me the picture...don't send me any more slightly gnostic-inspired, weak theological dibble!
