I sent out the following email to a bunch of my friends on this journey we call Christ following: "Frequently, we miss the point of Jesus! We are so enamored with ourselves and what we feel we are doing to make an impact. We build our little Kingdoms...construct our new church buildings here in the US to the tune of 5 billion dollars in 2004...publish books...put together media offerings...hold conferences...all of which originate from good hearts but I wonder, how much of an impact will they truly make on a hurting world? Aren’t we so often just talking to ourselves and making ourselves feel like we are making a difference for Jesus’ sake? How is God glorified in what we do and our ministry priorities? What are we doing to spend our time on that which moves the heart of God? Here is a link to a video produced by a musician who doesn’t sell albums through CCM or your local Christian bookstore. Even so, it’s message is revolutionary in the way that Jesus’ message is revolutionary. Join a revolution of contemplation and reflection on something that matters! Share the video link with some friends, OK? Take this as a Kingdom moment in your life!" The LINK – http://www.worldonfire.ca/ I loved what I heard back...in fact, I've written many, many what I thought were spiritually challenging thoughts on my blog since I started it a month back. Haven't gotten the numbers of responses as I have from a simple email! Here are a sampling of responses: From a brother in OC: "and to think... I swindolled an african guy in Burkina Faso when I was buying a djembe! I got it for a steal ... even the natives said that. And of course, being the person I am, I was all proud ... now I feel like an idiot." From the same bro: "Anyways ....dude... talk about a convicting study break video. I'm sitting in the theology library working on a paper ... figured I'd take a study break to check my mail ... and BAM! funny thing ... I was just talking about all this to a friend of mine at Youth Specialties about Youth Specialties. It's a bussiness." And from a fellow Community Pastor at SCU: "wow, I am moved. thank you. every time I do an event it stirs these thoughts in my head... what to do with them is another thought all together. it is such a conflict. I have began the talks of what could be done with the leftover food... be in prayer over the solution." From one of my YLI kids who is awesome beyond belief! "omg...i know, while i was at chaya and brian's, chay and i were checking out pples blog spots and we were at mike devries' and saw this one...while her and i were watching it, we were totally blown away at how many lives 150,000 dollars can touch....sigh....dang its really amazing how much i tend to take things for granted...." Are we missing the point?
