Yep, it's time to open the proverbial intellectual can of woop a**! I'm frankly tired of hearing what students can and can't do. I can't even begin to tell you how many youth workers I come in contact with who are still fueling the entertainment mentality of student ministry. We are so concerned with placation, numbers and slick programs to promote our churches, our youth groups, and our reputations in 21st century AMERICAN Christianity. The problem is despite the fact that 80% of students are involved in some type of Christian activity in high school, by the time they are in their sophomore year in college, there are only 17% left on the field. Everybody likes a slick and well-produced program. The problem is "man cannot live by programs alone". That's why I say, when you're with students, don't talk down to them...don't try to keep them entertained...don't even try to keep them. Take out a can of spiritual and intellectual woop a** and let em have it. We've got to start a revolution! You can't have a revolution of the Spirit with a majority of today's Christian students. They are too concerned with their culturally acceptable lifestyles, beliefs and worldviews. I've been thinking...we could probably get rid of 50% of the attendees at most youth groups and have a "healthier" atmosphere to grow revolutionaries who are going to take Jesus to the world in a radically new way. Don't take me wrong...every single student is precious in God's eyes...but we're talking life impact here! Never underestimate what you can do to push a student to a new life in Jesus. Truthfully, it's time to kick some lazy, spiritual a** (I promised my wife I would only use the word a** once a day!) Revolution!!!!
