Running or being summoned? I have a feeling that many times when we are on trips, retreats or vacations, we're basically running away from much of our lives. Don't take me wrong...the times we have away from our jobs and daily responsibilities are good things...but much of the time we make that type of a move in our lives when we are at the point of exhaustion. The urge to "get away" for some refreshment implies that we cannot find that type of refreshment in the middle of the routine of our daily lives. So, in order to be refreshed, we have to escape. MMMM...I'm wondering about that...why not reframe our get-aways with the spirit of being summoned to "come away" with the Lord. Instead of running from the daily grind in order to find peace, why don't we ask Holy Spirit to summon us away for some deeper purpose. Instead of looking for refreshment and renewal "out there" on some trip or escape, why don't we start looking for God to move not only in the moments of our day but also when He summons us to a time to "come away" with Him? I'm leaving for a few days to go to Utah. I love Utah...I don't know why, but I do. I'm wondering even as I am blogging this morning, what is God summoning me to? Why is He calling me to come away with Him to a different place? Is there something I can't hear or won't respond to while I'm in the routine of my life here in SoCal? Why this trip at this time? You see what I mean? Next time you "get away", ask the Lord, "why am I coming away with You on this trip? What are YOU summoning me to?" Maybe it will make that next "get-away" something more mysterious and glorious. Think about that!
